Buck up

Well. They did it. They lifted the ban on gay marriage in California! Fantastic!

Why was it ever banned to begin with? What is wrong with people? I guess I'm just to liberal. I guess I just think every loving couple - no matter what your sex - should be entitled to prove their commitment to one another with a legal piece of paper if they desire. Why is that wrong?

Come on other states...buck up.

I stand 100% against gay marriage (at least to Adam) :)

All kidding aside, this is an important step. Unfortunately, because of the conservative agenda I don't see this ever escalating past a states rights issue. But as more and more states offer these rights, those states who are so happily voting to ban gay marriage will find that their decisions bleed residents and revenue. So it won't be a push to ensure democracy for all that will push the gay marriage equality issue, it will be economics. Not the preferred method, but I'll take my rights any way I can get them.

While I'm rambling, rather than states recognizing gay marriage I would prefer they recognize no marriage. Marriage is a religious institution, offering government benefits for entering into that religious contract is a clear violation of seperation of church and state. Everyone should have to have a civil union, in a government facility - not a church. If you want your church wedding, great, have one, but it should carry no legal merit.

In the meantime I'll just be drinking out of this other water fountain. Subosedly it's just like the one you breeders use, only is seperate. I have my doubts.
